To Be A Kid: The Experience
To Be a Kid: The Experience is our summer program that invites families to partake in various activities where their kids can just be kids amid the gun violence that we hear about each day in the city. Gun violence has claimed the lives of too many of our youth. The ripple effect of gun violence is that it creates a sense of fear in parents and children alike. Children are becoming victims while playing at the neighborhood park, driving in family cars, or even sitting in the comfort of their homes. Kids are afraid every single day to just go out and have some fun.
The James-Gail Foundation, Inc. aims to give youth back their innocence with free excursions around the city. We want families from low income families to be able to take their kids places without worrying about the cost. We want to provide a space where kids can see more than their neighborhoods as we expose them to many other opportunities and things that the city has to offer. There is more than sadness and gun violence out there. We want to create spaces where kids can simply be kids again amid the gun violence that continues to plague the neighborhoods they live in.
We also talk about gun violence and what we can do to help create safer spaces for children and future generations. We learn about kindness and compassion. We discuss conflict resolution and engage in a group therapy session.
We are so excited for families to join us and bring the youth out for some fun experiences as they focus on simply being kids!
